Electrical Fault Finding

Electrical Recliner Fault Finding – Attempting to find a fault in a electric recliner system can be difficult, below is a basic guide on how to check for obvious defects.

Electrical Fault Finding – Power

  • Does the recliner transformer have a visible LED present? If so, this would normally suggest transformer is ok. No LED visible would suggest that the transformer is faulty.
  • Is the plug socket working ok? (use another item in the socket to test)
  • Does the transformer plug work, is the fuse blown?
  • Do you have another transformer on another recliner to test?

Physical Damage – always turn off power before completing these checks

  • Check all connections by separating and re-fitting tightly.
  • Check cables for obvious signs of damage – cuts, scrapes, entrapment in the mechanism or crush marks?

Electrical Fault Finding – Recliner Switch

  • Does the recliner switch have a visible LED?
  • Do the switch buttons move freely and click when pressed? If not, then buttons may be physically jammed.
  • Are there any noises from the recliner when pushing a button? If so, then it is likely switch is working.

Electrical Fault Finding – Recliner Motor/ Actuator

  • Is there any noise or vibration from the recliner motor actuator when the recliners switch is pressed? If so, then it likely an internal fault is present in the motor actuator.
