Replacement recliner cable – The essential measurements required are the barrel size and exposed cable length – the overall length of the cable is rarely required as these can vary greatly but have no bearing on the fitting or operation a recliner. Please see details below of how to obtain these measurements.
Prior to fitting the replacement recliner cable, the existing recliner cable needs to be removed from the mechanism and handle, an accurate measurement CANNOT be obtained with the cable still fitted. An approximate guide is to add 20mm to the exposed cable if attempting to measure with the cable still fitted to the handle but we would recommend measuring the cable when fully removed from the handle. Once fully removed, firstly you need to know the barrel size which fits into the handle end – this will be either 3mm or 6mm. It is common for the cables to break at the handle end and the barrel being missing, should this be the case the barrel size can be obtained by checking the fitting point within handle. Now push all the excess of cable from the barrel end to the opposite end, the exposed cable protruding from the black sheathing is the crucial measurement – measure the exact size from the end of the sheathing to the end of the Z-shaped dog leg, this is the exposed cable length referred to on our product page. Normally any exposed cable measurement of within +/- 3-4mm to your measurement would be suitable as cables can stretch with usage. We also supply extendable cables with a 10mm variation of the exposed cable if you are still unsure of the exact size required.
It is possible to measure these cables when partially fitted but we would always recommend fully removing to ensure an accurate measurement.
Once fully removed from the mechanism and seat frame the exposed cable at the opposite end to the handle needs to be measured – this is normally 128mm or 79mm (approx. 3/4mm stretch can occur during usage). The other crucial measurement required is how far the parachute handle protrudes out from beside the seat. To ascertain this measurement, measure the distance from the top of the seat frame mounting plate (rectangular black plastic plate normally with six holes) to the base of the handle, this can range from 0mm to 110mm in some instances. Should you wish to change the height of the parachute handle, for instance to hide the handle or to expose it further for easier use then it is possible to order a shorter or longer parachute handle providing the exposed cable size is the same as original.
